British Land has acquired three UK retail park destinations for £94m. It has acquired Capitol Retail and Leisure Park in Preston, Solartron Retail Park in Farnborough and a DFS warehouse in Cambridge since November. British Land head of strategy and investment Kelly Cleveland said that “retail parks have emerged as a preferred format, due to their compatibility with omnichannel retail, their affordability and appeal to online resilient businesses.”
TK Maxx has agreed a deal to occupy the former Debenhams site at Westfield White City. The fashion and homeware retailer will open in the 30,000sq. ft. store later this year, according to the Evening Standard. Kate Orwin, UK leasing director at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, said that this announcement was just the latest in a string of global retailers taking up space at the centre and “[m]ore exciting signings will soon be unveiled for this part of the centre as we continue to transform our spaces and bring customers the best retail, dining and leisure mix.”
Accessories retailer Claire’s has announced a partnership with Asda to stock its products at over 500 supermarkets. The partnership follows the successful trial in 2020 where 10 Asda stores offered Claire’s products. Senior director for retail planning and proposition for George at Asda, Alison Grainger, said: “By joining forces with exciting and beloved brands like Claire’s, customers who visit our stores are provided with not only convenience but also access to a greater product choice from brands they love, enabling them to complete more shopping missions in one location.”
Frasers Group has acquired Luton’s The Mall Shopping Centre from Capital & Regional. The mall offers around 900,000sq. ft. of space, with 150 retailers including Primark, H&M and TK Maxx. Frasers Group have said that they are looking forward to working with Luton Council to “stabilise and elevate the scheme”.
